“Extraordinary! The whole thing looked old fashioned but its immediate effect was bang up to date...”
Taming of the Shrew Autumn Tour 08
2008 Re-tour opens 19th Sept
Following an acclaimed outdoor tour last summer, Miracle Theatre is taking Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew to theatres throughout the UK in September and October, opening at the Tolmen Centre in Constantine on September 19.
A controversial, passionate, ironic and tender story of sexual politics, The Taming of the Shrew is brought into the 21st century by this Cornish company, famous for their highly visual productions, always moving, full of music and genuinely funny.
"Although last year's production designed for open-air performance, the weather was so appalling during the first weeks of the tour that the actors soon got used to being moved indoors, whether it was to a nearby school hall, a barn or, on one occasion, a cowshed!" explains director Bill Scott. "The show worked just a well in such intimate spaces and so, when it was suggested that the show deserved to be seen by a wider audience, we decided to organise an indoor tour. Happily all five members of the original cast are able to take part in this revival, so we can look forward to the same lively quality of performance that wowed audiences last year."
With characters so richly drawn and full of humanity that they invite a thousand different interpretations Miracle Theatre's production of ‘The Taming of the Shrew' is "sophisticated, innovative comic theatre which never condescends to or short-changes its audience"
