Rumpelstiltskin - The Carn

The Revenge of Rumplestiltskin was a great success!

The lights dimmed and the spotlight shone to reveal the actors ready to begin. They started by giving the brief yet effective ending of the well known fairytale, to catch anyone who hadn’t read up on the fairytale. The play was presented in the style of a Victorian pantomime, with white faces and over the top acting style. The actors in the pantomime were: Jason Squibb, Tom Adams, Sally Crooks and Ben Dyson.

Throughout the pantomime witty jokes and puns were exhibited that perhaps the younger generations may not have understood, but certainly the older audience. Naturally, being a panto, there were a series of replies expected from the audience in which everyone had to play along; it even included a song in which the lyrics were shown on a large sheet of paper so no one had an excuse.

The play was put together well, the costumes brilliant and the singing odd but brilliant all the same. The female’s singing parts in the panto were sung by one of the other participants of the play instead even though he was male, which certainly added to the comedy. She mimed and he sung while he was changing costume.

It was an amazing performance and I’m glad I had the chance to see it. I’ve seen a lot of pantomimes, but by far this one out-laughs them all. The actors really did put all the energy they could muster into their performance and it paid off. Miracle are currently touring The Revenge of Rumplestlitskin around local venues throughout Cornwall this winter. I strongly recommend seeing one of the many other performances, so I won’t spoil what happens in the end!
